Wales. With the world in crisis, who knows what the future will bring? Food is scarce, the chickens are dying one by one, and the farm at Dolfrwynog sleeps in the winter sun. Uncle Wil is growing old and weak on the shrivelled farmyard. The children, Mari and Huw, need to grow up fast. Elin, their mother, has turned her back on the world, unable to cope with the dirt, the cold and the poverty. When the young and capable Polish man Nico wanders into their lives, they grasp at the hope he brings in a country that is destroying itself…
