From the author:

I used to work for a climate change consultancy and have spent time in Antarctica. I am also a bit unusual in that I studied literature at the University of London, and I am a great believer in the power of storytelling to help us understand our world and our place in it. I think that climate change is a scary and elusive concept that can be easily ignored because it isn’t always tangible and is costly to tackle. Most people find the science baffling and the doubt-mongers deliberately confuse us further. But a fast-paced action thriller set in Antarctica with the lives of millions at stake is a way of not only entertaining but of raising the idea that accelerating climate change will have a devastating impact on our lives. Fiction is less confronting that non-fiction, but it can be just as powerful, possibly more so, because it engage the readers’ emotions. Thrillers especially do this as they take the reader on a roller-coaster ride of emotions from despair to hope, from terror to relief, from joy to grief and so on.
