The Alex Cave Series, James Corkill

Mary Woodbury

July 28, 2015

Thanks to author James Corkill for introducing his Alex Cave series to us. He states:

I would like to tell you a little bit about my eco-fiction stories. In each book, Alex must find an unconventional means to save the planet from different environmental disasters.

Alex Cave is a geophysics instructor from Montana, and while on vacation, sailing the waters of the Puget Sound, a brilliant flash of light catches his attention. When he changed course to investigate, he had no idea this would be the start of an epic adventure, where he would be the only person capable of saving humanity from environmental catastrophes.

In book 1, Dead Energy, an environmental extremist creates a means of transforming oil into a new, clean, and extremely powerful energy source, but he doesn’t consider the consequences of depleting the world’s supply of raw crude oil in a matter of weeks.

In book 2, Cold Energy, an alien device begins freezing and expanding the Polar Ice Sheet at an alarming rate. The sudden freezing temperature creates a massive Polar vortex, altering weather patterns on a global scale and causing worldwide destruction.

In book 3, Red Energy, the Yellowstone super volcano becomes active, filling the atmosphere with toxic gases and ash.

In book 4, Gravity, which will be released in October, the moon begins to change its orbit, creating devastating tidal effects.

Society starts to crumble, pitting human against human! Great start to the series! Alex Cave is a science fiction Indiana Jones!

When his wife was murdered during a mission, Alex Cave quit the CIA for a less stressful life as a geology instructor. ‘Let someone else save the world from the bad people.’ At least, that was his plan.

While on vacation sailing the waters of the Puget Sound, he sees a brilliant flash of light from an oil tanker. He changes course to help and discovers there was no explosion and no one onboard. The next morning the crew is found frozen on a mountain, hundreds of miles inland. Even more unsettling, the tanker left Alaska with a full load of heavy crude oil, but the empty storage tanks are as clean as the day they were built.

When oil supplies along the west coast begin to disappear, people in the inner cities begin to panic when they can’t even get basic necessities because of the lack of fuel. He realizes he must shake off his depression, find whoever is responsible, and use any means necessary to stop them.
The investigation leads him to the remnants of a spacecraft at Groom Lake, and the only clue is a dollar size crystal, which appears to be alive.

Can Alex get his act together and find a solution for this dire situation?

Sudden freezing temperatures cause weather patterns to change for the worse and threaten a catastrophe that will affect the entire world. As various government agencies struggle to find a solution, they all converge on a single man: Alex Cave, a professor of geophysics.

Alex leads a small band of volunteers in a desperate attempt to remedy the situation before civilization faces ecological disaster, but members of the group have their own agenda, seeking wealth and fame through murder and seduction.

Captain John Dieter’s greed blinds him to the suffering caused by the disastrous weather conditions, and he enlists the help of modern day pirates to capture a high-tech research vessel named the Mystic, the only ship capable of saving humanity from extinction. He takes the Mystic to an unknown island in the Bering Sea in search of hidden treasure, but what he discovers is an alien artifact, which is freezing the oceans at an incredible rate and will engulf the planet in a matter of weeks. How can Alex and the crew of the Mystic stop the sudden freezing before the world enters a new Ice age?

Cold Energy part 2. Geologist Alex Cave is trying to recover an alien artifact from the crater of a dormant volcano in the Aleutian Islands when things go horribly wrong.
The device is stolen and taken to COBRA, a privately owned top-secret research facility south of Yellowstone National Park. His good friend Doctor Henry Heinz is kidnapped and forced to assist with the experiments, but their tests begin creating adverse effects throughout the park and threaten a super volcanic eruption, which will smother the Earth in a blanket of dust for a thousand years.

His wife was murdered during a mission, and Alex thought he would never find another soulmate until he meets Fala, a Native American woman living in northwest Wyoming with her 10-year old daughter, Halona. When the COBRA experiment initiates the Yellowstone eruption, Alex watches in horror as Fala and Halona are killed by the blast, sending him into a deep depression.

While in mourning, Alex is given a chance to go back in time to try to change the outcome, but there is a catch. He will not remember what he needs to do to make a difference, and if he fails, he must watch them die an even more horrific death.

And if that wasn’t bad enough, the changes he made to the timeline put his own family in grave danger by an old nemesis from his days as a CIA operative, and it seems his every attempt to change the outcome only makes matters worse. He realizes his only chance of saving his loved ones is to find a way to stop the eruption before it happens. The problem will be enlisting the support of his friends without being able to tell them why they must risk their lives to help him. How can Alex find a way to save his family and civilization from extinction?

Geologist Alex Cave receives an urgent message about an unusual geologic event in Iceland, when giant globules of molten rock are floating up out of an ancient glacier.

Alex and his friend Okana descend deep into the lava tube of a dormant volcano and discover a 180-million year old alien artifact of incredible power, but before he can take it to a safe location, it is stolen by Janice Sloan, a ruthless woman dealing in stolen advanced technology. When she turns it on, the device begins changing the orbit of the moon and dragging satellites from the sky, but it won’t shut down.

Alex begins a desperate race to find the artifact while dealing with his live-in girlfriend, Fala, who thinks he’s just an adventure junkie, leaving her and her 10-year old daughter on the spur of the moment without any explanation or concern for her feelings. Because of the clandestine nature of the operation, it’s ripping his heart out that he can’t tell her he is on a top-secret mission to save the lives of everyone on the planet.

Alex learns that even if he finds the artifact, he needs a key taken by Sloan to shut it down, but she is determined to acquire a vast sum of money for her efforts. She kidnaps Fala and her daughter as leverage to keep Alex from pursuing her, and will contact him in two weeks with instructions on where to transfer 2-million dollars into a numbered account in exchange for his family and the key.

And as if that wasn’t bad enough, a massive emerald asteroid with a core of solid gold is on a collision course with Earth and will impact in six-days. In order to change its trajectory, he needs the artifact and the key, but he’s running out of time to find Sloan and his family. How can Alex find a way to save his loved ones and civilization from extinction?
